I'm a US soldier, I'm asking from a christian point of view, is it wrong to kill a man if its my job?
Say for example that if a man is about to attack me while I'm trying to protect my country, and I straight switch my M-16 to burst and send him back home?I'm a US Soldier, can you help with some religious advice?
I don't think this is a genuine question. I think a Christian would have thought this through before joining the military.
I'm Humanist. Whether a person is religious or not, I think it's natural to try and save your own life, even if it means killing.
Is the man attacking an Iraqi in Iraq? Iraq had no weapons of mass destruction, so I don't think the US should be there. Saddam Hussein was a very bad man, but religious theocracies are just as bad.I'm a US Soldier, can you help with some religious advice?
It's not your job to kill a man, it's your job to protect your country. So if that man is a threat to you and your country, you would have to stop him by any means possible and if you have to shoot him, then you shoot.
Btw from my understanding, if you shoot the enemy and he still happened to be alive, it is also part of your job to resuscitate him even though you shot him.
In my opinion, you're not killing a man because it's your job, you're killing a man because it's the right thing to do. There are a lot of people who struggle with that idea. The people we're fighting right now are not good people who are confused. They are extremists who believe killing you will get them into Paradise. They're not fighting for rights or freedoms, they're fighting because they believe in their superiority.
My husband is in the Marine Corps, and he fights with himself every once in a while over this...I can tell you that nothing helps ease that burden like prayer.
As long as you're not killing this man with a smile on your face, as long as you're doing it because it's right, and not because it's fun, you're on the right track.
if its to protect yourself, your country and others no
of course you're going to get told it is, but its not
hollyy
by the way, don't listen to elise, she doesnt know didly squat about christianity OR afghanistan OR iraq. she probaly supported hitler and believe no one should have tried to stop him. and she definetly doesnt represent us canucks at all
The Ten Commandments are first and foremost Mosaic law directed solely to the Jewish people. Secondly, the phrase ';do not kill'; is typically misconstrued as it means to not murder (pre-meditated). Thirdly, it's commanded in the Bible to submit to the governing authority because it has been established by God, so you doing what you are ordered to is fine.
That is the type of question I've been struggling with as well. Talk to a chaplain and he can give you a lot more help then we can. Chaplains have more insight then us. They work both sides the military side and religious side and I'm sure they deal with this a lot. So find one and talk to them and they can answer all your questions.
If you are in your country and trying to protect it from invaders, it is okay to kill.
If you are in another country and are trying to make it seem like you are protecting your country when you really aren't, you are in the wrong.
u going into someone else's country and invading their country itself is a sin.
