What was the best advice you ever got or gave?

just for intrest sake what was the best advice you ever got that really inspired you and changed your life, or gaven

thanks!What was the best advice you ever got or gave?
The first thing that comes to mind was, ';don't ever quit when your down.';

That was 20 years ago from my District Manager. I was going to resign because the center I was managing was under-performing. I actually did resign, but my boss refused to accept it with the quote above. He added that he would accept my resignation when the center's performance improved. Of course I could have still walked out, but I had a tremendous amount of respect for the man.

Six weeks later, not only was I transferred to a better location, but received a promotion as well. I did eventually resign and return to the same company several times over the next 15 years. But, I had to be performing well before I went off chasing some other dream. I was always welcomed back because I was respected as someone who would not quit when things were not going well.What was the best advice you ever got or gave?
If the truth makes you angry, then you'd better change what's true!
Stop taking life so seriously. It is intended to be fun.

Love and blessings Don
Be happy
Its better to be 80% done 100% correct than 100% done and 80% correct. In other words take your time and do things right the first time.
Don't follow this advice.
That there is no higher virtue or worthier pursuit than the perfection of disinterest in egos. I learned this from a VERY old friend, seven hundred years ago.

While I had experienced the creative power of this detachment several times in childhood, bumping into an explanation of the subject (an Eckhart sermon from centuries before) as a young adult was a profound life-affirming experience.
Sometimes even ordinary statements get deep into our core. When I was 10, one of my teachers said... ';never lose sleep over anything, it is not worth it';. And I have never lost sleep since then.
The best advice i ever got is from a philosopher called Socrates. Thus, ';Man know thy self';. This advice has positive impact on my life. For, ever since i had this advice i have been progressing steadily. The reason is that whatever i do, i have to examine my capabilities before i start.
From the play Our Town.

Does anyone ever realize life when they are living it?

Maybe a few poets and saints do.

Even in high school I knew this was true and I kept reminding myself that I wanted to live instead of let life slip by.
dont cry it ended smile it happened
';Face things with the best you got, but don't expect it to always turn out well... Because one must have the serenity to deal with things that can't be changed, and happy outcomes are the extra not the norm!'; I would not want it any other way... living a Brady Bunch life would be terrible...!
once I said this to my daughter : even if in the whole week, you very surely experienced only five minutes of real, deep happiness, then hold on, life is great -

And once a cousin told me - you cannot at every minute think about everything, sometimes you must stop thinking and commit yourself
i think all of the advice and things my mum told me. at the time i never listened to her when she said ';dont do this you will regret it'; i was too busy thinking how excited i was to get my belly button peirced or whatever i was doing. i NEVER listened to her or took her opinions into my head but now i will always ask her opinion and no matter how much i want something if my mum says it is a bad idea i will either think again or not go ahead coz i know she will be right!
Received good advice from someone about finding a ';good guy';: You can always tell how a guy will treat you by how he treats his mother.
'Gaven'?? You mean 'given' (I hope)

The best advice I ever got was when my Grandfather told me, ';A hundred years from now, nobody is really going to give a s.h.i.t. about any of this. Why not put yourself a hundred years ahead of the game?';

Doug
';Children live what they learn';
Over the years I have received much good advice, and I hope I have dispensed some as well, but recently I was given a gem that seems to have helped. When I found out that I was going to be a father for the first time, I said to a friend ';I just hope I don't mess this parenting thing up.'; And he replied; ';Oh, you will mess it up, but it will be OK anyway.';
';most of life's failures are people who didn't know how close they were to success when they gave up.';

take my advice, I don't use it anyway.
when in doubt gas it
Don't eat the yellow snow
';My boy, nations will rise and fall, stock markets will crash, people are no dam good, but they're always going to want land, and they'll be willing to pay through the nose to get it.';

-Lex Luthor
I've actually used this once before tonight but it qualifies. I'm a hockey umpire and a very, very good umpire (like international level) said to me ... if you get 90% of your decisions right, you'll be a great umpire.

I've used this as a message of life. I had doubts about my umpiring and I use the 90% rule. Now I do that with my life too - I'm prepared to make mistakes.

The true moral: Relaxing about the decisions means better decisions
Know your self and be your self .
after my best friend tried to take my boyfriend and talk behind my back i learned something that should never trust a girl when it gets to guys and specially never give her his number.

and my advice was nothing in life is easy even if people tried to lie about it.only the one who work for it will get to he's target
Silence.
