l also have had carpal tunnel syndrome. My only alternative was surgery. You will not regret it.There is nothing worse that having that numb and tingly feeling.Maybe in the meantime you could use one of those wrist straps. They help to a certain degree, but when your hand is in a certain position at times that numb feeling ,you just cannot get rid of.The Dr. did an electrical test on my arms and told me I have carpal tunnel. Can you give me advice.?
Try some Occupational Therapy first along with custom fitted brace(s)
I know that many times surgery is required but try all the alternatives first.
Good luck to you!
Occupational Therapy (OT) will help with carpal tunnel. They can give you some exercises to do (like tendon glides) that sometimes help with carpal tunnel syndrome. They also have other techniques such as kinesiotaping (a stretchy tape that they will put around your wrist to help relieve some pressure). OTs can also help you adapt work tools, like making the handle bigger so it's easier to hold and cause less pain. It is also good to see an OT because he/she can make you a resting hand splint that you can wear at night or times during the day when you are not busy. A resting hand splint will put your hand in a relaxed position. Surgery would be an option on if OT does not help or if your symptoms progress further. OTs cannot cure your carpal tunnel, but it CAN help alleviate some of your symptoms.
