I'm 14; I suppose I'm a pretty good shot, or at least thats what I've been told. Anyhow, I'd like to get into competitive shooting and I'm looking for some advice. Thanks.I'd like to begin competitive shooting; do you have any advice?
Take a look at the below link --- You should find some of the information there quite useful........ I'm not sure how large of a young person you are. Normaly I would suggest using a rifle chambered in .308 but if your not a heavy person then the next choice would be .223...... Both of these are military rounds...... One of the main thing I like about military cartridges is that the ammunition can be bought on the internet in bulk at decent prices...... Avoid regular hunting cartridges like 22-250, .243, 270, 7MM, etc, etc.... Although they are decent accurate cartridges they are expensive. usualy $20 a box on up........ With bulk military size cartridges you can get a lot of practice time in without cleaning your wallet out..... See below!I'd like to begin competitive shooting; do you have any advice?
it would help to know what state you are in, but here goes a few starting point for research
NRA's Competitive Shooting Division

International Practical Shooting Confederation - http://www.ipsc.org/
The worldwide organizing body for the sport known as ';practical shooting'; which requires the participant to blend accuracy, speed and power.
United States Practical Shooting Association - http://www.uspsa.com/
The organizing body in the US of the International Practical Shooting Confederation (IPSC).
UPDATE: Pennsylvania Rifle and Pistol Association

First, get lessons before you pick up any bad habits you need to unlearn. Next, it's all about simplicity and consistency. Work on a shooting technique that involves as little motion as possible, and strive to practice it the same way every time. Finally, practice a little bit as often as you can; daily if possible.
This holds true for firearms, archery, darts, free throws, golf...you name it.
What part of the state do you live in because your best bet at your age is to get hooked up with a youth shooting program. They will show you how to shoot, and most of the time they have the equiptment you need. If you want to shoot something other than rifle you can find something for you to shoot.
