Your sixth grade reading tutee, Salome, and you have become quite close. When she comes in for her tutoring session, all she wants to do is talk about her social life鈥攆riends, boyfriend, movies, etc. When you try to redirect her attention back on the work, she gets her feelings hurt because she thinks you don鈥檛 care about her life. What can you do to make the tutoring session productive?HELP ASAP: if you are a teacher or tutuor, please share your advice......?
At the start of the session say to her...';Salome can I just tell you that tutoring with you has been a breath of fresh air. You are a good friend. Unfortunately we've lost focus on why were are here. I can't wait to hear about your day but lets get through this first then we can catch up.';HELP ASAP: if you are a teacher or tutuor, please share your advice......?
Maybe you need to tell her that you are being paid to tutor her and you'll get in trouble if you don't go over each of the lesson with her, but if you ';get through'; enough material, you'll have time to chat for the last 5 minutes. Sounds like she is either in desperate need of an adult friend or she's very good at getting out of tutoring :o) Either way, a few minutes of friendly conversation will only help the process!
